A global dentist who contributed to the advancement of Korea dental medicine
Professor No Hee Park, a global authoritative dentist, promoted the college of dental medicine, UCLA to the best in the USA and led research advancement and innovation of dental schools in several countries such as Korea, China, Japan, and Serbia.
After the appointment as professor in the college of dental medicine, UCLA, he led fusion research of dental medicine as the head of dental medicine research institute from 1995 to June 2002 and took the high command in biomedical research and fusion research of the college of dental medicine, serving as research deputy dean of the college of dental medicine, UCLA in 1997. Then, from total 18 years from 1998 to June 2016, he directed operation of budget as much as 90 million dollars per year and education, research, patient care and public services of the college of dental medicine, UCLA, as its dean and reestablished it to research focused college, patient-centered dental hospital, and a financially and administratively unflappable college by leading 400 full-time and part-time professors, 450 students of the college, 91 resident dentists, and 300 staffs. He served as dean of the college of dental medicine, not only UCLA for the longest times within the recent 50 years but also dean for the second-longest time in 100-year UCLA history. During this time, the college of dental medicine, UCLA was selected as one of the best research focused dental schools in the USA won the governmental and non-governmental research funds as much as 5 times more than before.
With ceaseless idea derivation and concentration to research in the oral and maxillofacial research area as a dental medicine researcher, he wrote 173 SCI grade experimental articles, 11 review articles, and 10 chapters and presented 206 abstracts in both American and international conferences. In the early days in his research, he focused on exploring the action mechanism of antiviral agents and the development of animal models available widely in the study of drug efficacy. Then, he identified multi-stage oncogenesis of oral and head and neck cancer, human-derived oral epithelial cells intraoral diseases, the role of HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) in the oral and head and neck cancer and established cancer cell line containing feature of oral cancer. Moreover, he studied oncogenesis affected by genetic instability and established cell aging model using human-derived keratinocytes for study on stem cells and cancer stem cells.
Recently, he is performing a study on oncogenesis of oral cancer and tissue engineering research to solve pains and symptoms of patients appearing actually during clinical treatment and procedures with substitution of basic study, directing oral biology and virus research team comprising professors of the college of dental medicine, UCLA. He continues also his major studies on chronic inflammatory reactions related to aging, chronic disease including cancers, and the correlation between periodontal disease and other chronic diseases. These innovative achievements were published in the world-famous medical journals such as Nature Medicine, Aging cell, Cell stem cell, Clinical Cancer Research, Journal of Biological Chemistry, and Oncogene, which recorded higher citation number.
Besides his academic achievements, he provided a lot of lectures on college management and change to research focused college of dental medicine and medical biology, serving as visiting professor of Seoul National University (Korea), chair professor of Kyunghee University (China), honorary professor of Sichuan University, visiting professor of Beijing University (China), and exchange professor of Meikai University. Due to the recognition of his superior leadership in the dental education field and achievements in cancer study, he received an honorary doctoral degree from Meikai University and Asahi University of Japan.

Under the recognition of his research achievements and contribution to research environment establishment in the college of dental medicine, UCLA as its dean, he received a lot of prizes including research fellowship of US NIH (1978), the best scientist prize in International Dental Research Council (2001), 25-year anniversary memorial special prize of Harvard graduation (2007), 17ht proud SNU students (2007), GIES Award (2010), Proud Alumnus Prize of Medical College of Georgia (2010). Professor No Hee Park, a global researcher, science educator, and management, provided huge drive force for the growth of the medical and academic field through knowledge sharing, and transmission of holding technology to several counties and contributed elevation of pride and raise of its stage settled globally.
